The Embassy of Japan, Ottawa, Canada has more than 400 titles in its video library which are available to the Canadian public (schools, associations, clubs, companies, media, groups and individuals) for viewing. The videos cover a wide-range of topics including geography, government, society, culture and life.
If you (or your school, association, etc.) have an interest in Japan and wish to make use of the Embassy's Video Library, please contact the Information and Cultural Affairs Section, Embassy of Japan at (613) 241-8541 or send an e-mail to infocul@embjapan.ca.
Two or three videos can be borrowed at one time. There is no charge for this service. However, you may be asked to replace video(s) that are damaged while in your possession. Schools (or associations, etc.) in the Ottawa area are asked to pick up the video(s) at the Embassy. For schools (or associations, etc.) outside of the Ottawa region the Embassy will cover the cost for sending requested videos via priority post or private courier service, and borrowers are responsible for covering the cost for returning borrowed video(s) via the same type of service.
Individuals borrowing videos for private use must make arrangements and bear all costs for the pick-up/return of the video(s).
Persons who pick up the videos at the Embassy must provide proper identification (with photo).
When borrowing videos from the Embassy Video Library, borrowers agree to respect all relevant copyright laws.
Booking should be made several weeks in advance and should indicate:
- Name of Person
- Name of School (or association, etc)
- Complete address for courier delivery
- Telephone number
- Title (s) desired, with alternate choice
- Date (s) of screening.
Many of the titles listed are also available at the Consulate General of Japan offices throughout Canada. It is therefore requested that you first contact the office nearest your place of residence to order videos. If the office nearest your place of residence is not able to help you, please contact the Embassy for assistance. Please note borrowing conditions at the Consulate General of Japan offices may differ from the Embassy's lending policy.

The Embassy will not take requests from outside Canada. Interested parties outside of Canada should contact the Japanese diplomatic mission nearest their place of residence.
