An Afternoon of Classical Guitar, Flute, and Violin
On October 31, 2010, the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation presented a classical concert “An Afternoon of Classical Guitar, Flute, and Violin” featuring a unique trio at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa . The performers were guitarist Mr. Yasuji OHAGI, flutist Mr. Kazunori SEO, and violinist Mr. Gentaro KAGITOMI. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Ishikawa referred to the art of music as a truly universal language.
At the end of a program that featured music from Latin America, Europe, and Asia , the audience rose to their feet for a long, standing ovation. As an encore, the trio performed Hallelujah, a world-renowned work by Canadian artist Leonard Cohen which fascinated an eager audience of over 400.
The following is a quotation from a message provided by guitarist Mr. Ohagi prior to the start of a concert tour in Canada .
“It is not important whether or not you know the particular pieces of music because all of us as human beings have the ability to appreciate the music through our emotions, imagination, knowledge, and our observations of nature."
We offer our sincere apologies to those who were unable to attend the concert due to the exceeding amount of visitors who came. The auditorium at the Gallery was filled to capacity with 400 audience members. |
