Lecture by Katsuyuki Yakushiji, senior writer at Asahi Shimbun: What Course Should Japan Take?

In cooperation with the Norman Patterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University, the Embassy of Japan was

pleased to host Mr. Katsuyuki Yakushiji for a lecture on Japanese politics and economics on September 29, 2010.

At the lecture, Mr. Yakushiji spoke about Japanese policies including foreign policy in Asia and efforts to maintain leadership and relations with neighboring countries. He also shared the view that Canada and Japan have in common the fundamental values of democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and the market economy, which make Japan an ideal partner in the Asia-Pacific region for Canada.

Commentators Bryon Wilfert, MP, and Fen Hampson, Professor at Carleton University, contributed

to the lecture which was attended by over 100 people.
