Ambassador Nishida made an official visit to the Province of Nova Scotia from November 3 to 5. During this visit, Ambassador Nishida made courtesy calls, with Honourary Consul Mr. Mark Surrette, on the Honourable Mayann Francis, Lieutenant Governor; the Honourable Rodney MacDonald, Premier; and the Honourable Alfie MacKeod, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly; as well as the Honourable Ronald Chisholm, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Honourable Brooke Taylor, the Minister of Agriculture. In the meetings with these prominent political figures, they exchanged views regarding the issues of traditional trade in marine products between Japan and Nova Scotia, possible further cooperation in the fields of environment and energy, increasing demands for the food security, as well as the importance of promoting exchange among youth in Japan and Nova Scotia.
Ambassador Nishida visited the Canadian Naval Installation at Halifax where he made a courtesy call on Commodore Ron Lloyd and reviewed the Halifax-class frigate, HMCS St. John’s. Ambassador Nishida also enjoyed the meeting with major business figures and Japanese people in Halifax.
