Exclusive Presentation by Dr. Motoshige Itoh
On Thursday, October 11th, Dr. Motoshige Itoh from University of Tokyo Graduate School of Economics (President of NIRA—National Institute for Research Advancement) held an exclusive presentation entitled “Japan and Canada: Opportunities and Challenges” at the Official Residence of the Ambassador Ishikawa.
About 60 people attended the lecture. Among those present at the lecture were Mr. Marc-André Morin (M.P.), The Hon. John Manley (President & CEO of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives), Mr. Michael Horgan (Deputy Minister of the Department of Finance), Mr. Leonard Edwards (Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the former Ambassador of Canada to Japan), some government officials, members of economic groups, media representatives, and scholars participating in the 25th Annual Conference of the Japan Studies Association of Canada (JSAC) that took place for few days at Carleton University.
Dr. Itoh made a presentation on topics such as the structural changes of the Japanese economy, the influence of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the ongoing reforms in the energy sectors, the changes in the trade policies (regime) in Asia, and the significance of the Japan-Canada Economic Partnership. Participants listened eagerly to Dr. Itoh’s analysis and a lively discussion took place during the Q & A period and the reception following the lecture.
Dr. Itoh also held lectures in Vancouver and Toronto.
