GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN TO BESTOW HONOUR ON THREE CANADIANS
OTTAWA ON – The Embassy of Japan announces that three Canadians will be bestowed one of the highest honours presented by the Government of Japan: the Order of the Rising Sun.

The bestowal of the decoration represents a gesture of gratitude of the Government of Japan to the Hon. Bryon Wilfert for his substantial acts contributing to better relations between Canada and Japan through his strong leadership and dedication as Member of Parliament and Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group. He has been consistently an active and influential advocate of the expansion of bilateral relations between Canada and Japan, strongly underlining the importance of partnership of two countries that share the common values and beliefs such as basic human rights and the rule of law.

The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon
The bestowal of the decoration represents a gesture of gratitude of the Government of Japan to Mr. Albert Diamond Cohen, Founding Director of Japan Society and Past Chairman and CEO of Sony of Canada, for his substantial acts contributing to the better relations between Canada and Japan especially in the field of economy. He has travelled to Japan in 1991 and 1994 as a member of a Canadian delegation to attend Japan Canada Business Council meetings and was instrumental in preparing the delegation’s recommendations which advocated a stronger economic relationship between Japan and Canada.

The bestowal of the decoration represents a gesture of gratitude of the Government of Japan to Mr. William Moncrief, Councillor of the Village of Cumberland and past Mayor of the Village of Cumberland, for his substantial acts contributing to the better relations between Canada and Japan through his leadership in showing respects to the history and culture of the Japanese Canadian community in the region.
