The official visit of Ambassador Ishikawa to Newfoundland and Labrador

Ambassador Ishikawa made his official visit to Newfoundland and Labrador from the 10th to the 12th of September.

During this visit, Ambassador Ishikawa met with The Honourable Nick McGrath, representing Premier Kathy Dunderdale and Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs, as well as with The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development.  He also had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Steve Kent, Deputy Chair of Committees for the House of Assembly during the luncheon hosted by the Deputy Chair.  Throughout these meetings, they exchanged views on how best to promote economic and business activities as well as the exchange of people between Japan and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ambassador Ishikawa then met with Mr. Steve Power, Chair of St. John’s Board of Trade.  They agreed on the importance of continuing to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries to further reinforce the economic ties between Japan and Canada, notably in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Ambassador also had a meeting with Dr. David M. Wardlaw, Provost and Vice-President of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN).  They discussed the possibility of academic cooperation and exchanges of students and academics between MUN and Japanese universities.

At a dinner with Japanese residents in St. John’s, the Japanese nationals shared with Ambassador Ishikawa their experiences in Newfoundland and Labrador and their opinions on how to reinforce relations between Japan and Newfoundland and Labrador.
