2014 JET Welcome Back Reception

On November 6, the Embassy of Japan hosted a welcome back reception for Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) participants returning to Canada this year from Japan.

The reception was attended by government officials, educators, members of the Ottawa Japanese Community and representatives of the Ottawa JET Alumni Association (JETAA) with whom the newly returned JETs could connect and share stories from their experience in Japan.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Okuda expressed his hope that new JET returnees would continue to take an active role in Japan-related activities through JETAA, the Embassy or Japanese culture-related organizations and help to promote further friendship between Canada and Japan.

After the returnees gave a brief introduction of themselves, one of the returnees made a speech on behalf of the group, speaking on his time in Japan and his wish to share his experience with other guests at the reception.

In his greetings, Mr. Alex Svetlovsky, President of JETTA Ottawa, welcomed back this year’s JETs and encouraged them to join JETAA Ottawa as way to maintain their connection to Japan.

The Embassy of Japan wishes all of the newest JET participants future success.
