Ohara Ikebana Exhibition: Renaissance

On March 5 and 6, the Embassy of Japan was pleased to host the annual Ohara Ikebana Exhibition. Over the course of two days, more than 300 visitors came to view and appreciate the beautiful floral arrangements that showcased the work of artists from beginners to master level teachers. The auditorium was filled with invigorating plants with some materials such as Japanese cherry blossoms shipped all the way from the west coast of Canada.

This year’s theme: "Renaissance" conveys the idea of rebirth, which can be interpreted in many ways: a new season, a new start, a new beginning, an exit from the past (the doldrums of winter, for example). During the official opening ceremony, Ms. Mitsuko Kawasaki, President of the Ottawa Chapter of Ohara and Ms. Elizabeth Armstrong, Exhibition Chair, welcomed guests. Representing the Embassy of Japan, Ambassador Monji addressed the audience and officially opened the event.
