Interactive Ikebana Demonstration

The Embassy of Japan was pleased to host an Interactive Ikebana Demonstration on March 1st.

After the opening remarks by Ambassador Monji the event started off with a presentation on the history, philosophies and principals as well as introduction to some of the materials to create Ikebana. The demonstration was presented by principal demonstrator Ms. Marie-Eve Coupal, Second Term Master and associate demonstrator Ms. Helen Westington, Second Term Master.

Ms. Coupal began the demonstration by creating a basic arrangement with an explanation of different sets of rules and techniques by using various branches and flowers. Also, the audience was delighted to view a larger and more complex arrangement with the base composed of driftwood as well as having the opportunity to ask questions to instructors freely during the demonstration.

The event was an excellent opportunity to broaden the scope of the upcoming annual Ikebana exhibition on March 5th and 6th, and to allow the wider public to have some insights into how arrangements are created.
