JET Career Fair & 2018 Welcome Back Reception
2018/11/28
On November 14, the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Alumni Association (JETAA) of Ottawa co-organized a Career Fair at the Embassy’s auditorium. In attendance was a select group of JET alumni, many of whom returned from the JET Programme earlier this year. These young professionals first received words of advice from three successful JET alumni in the education, government, and private sectors. Following this, the audience was presented with future career opportunities at several prominent Japan-related companies including Fujitsu, Autonomous ID, MUFG, Gastops, Shopify, Invest Ottawa, Invest in Canada, JETRO, and Pasona.
After the Career Fair a JET Welcome Back Reception was held at the Official Residence of Ambassador Kimihiro Ishikane. Nine JET Programme participants who returned from Japan in 2018 attended the reception, along with over 40 other JET Alumni, members of the business community, government officials, and other prominent members of the Japan-related community. Ambassador Ishikane began the evening with opening remarks, thanking the new JET alumni for their hard work and encouraging them to maintain their connection with Japan. Ms. Mireille Seguin, who taught in Nagasaki Prefecture, then spoke about her experience in Japan on behalf of this year’s returnees. Echoing the previous speakers, Mr. Brandon Wallace, President of JETAA Ottawa, described the activities of JETAA and the ways in which Japan can continue to play a role in the lives of JET alumni. Lastly, Ms. Eriko Ezaki, Deputy Executive Director at JETRO Toronto Office, gave final remarks and led a toast, after which guests from various sectors mingled, discussing opportunities for future growth.
