2019 Autumn Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals Conferment Ceremony

On September 8, Ambassador Kawamura Yasuhisa and Mrs. Kawamura conferred on Mr. James Taylor, Former Ambassador of Canada to Japan, the decoration of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, at a ceremony held at their official residence as part of the 2019 Autumn Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals. Mr. Taylor has contributed to promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Canada, as the former Ambassador of Canada to Japan from 1989 to 1993 and as undersecretary of state for external affairs from 1985 to 1989.
 
At the ceremony, Ambassador Kawamura delivered a congratulatory address before conferring the certificate of award and decoration to Mr. Taylor, which was followed by Mr. Taylor’s return salute.
 
The Government of Japan confers decorations to foreign nationals who made significant contributions to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding with Japan, and 136 foreign nationals have been conferred in 2019.
