2021 Fall Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals Conferment Ceremony

On July 15, Ambassador Yamanouchi Kanji conferred upon the Honourable David Tkachuk, former Senator, the decoration of The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star at a ceremony held at his official residence as part of the 2021 Fall Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals. Mr. Tkachuk was a long-time Co-chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, whose aim is to promote exchanges and mutual understandings between the parliamentarians of Canada and Japan. During his tenure, Mr. Tkachuk visited Japan twice and promoted the importance of strengthening economic ties between the two countries. Through his commitment, he made significant contributions to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Canada.
 
At the ceremony, Ambassador Yamanouchi delivered a congratulatory address before conferring the certificate of award and decoration to Mr. Tkachuk, which was followed by Mr. Tkachuk's acceptance speech.
 
The Government of Japan confers decorations to foreign nationals who have made significant contributions to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding with Japan. Decorations were conferred upon 124 foreign nationals in fall 2021.
