At the invitation of Mr. Terry Sheehan M.P., long-time Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi visited Mr. Sheehan’s home city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, from April 22 to April 23. The Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group is a non-partisan parliamentary group in the Canadian parliament that aims to promote exchanges with Japan, and over the years has contributed significantly to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting mutual understanding between Canada and Japan.

During these meetings, they exchanged views on promoting more and more economic activities between Japan and Northern Ontario in the areas of manufacturing and tourism.

Ambassador Yamanouchi also visited Algoma Steel, Canada's second largest steel company, and exchanged views on the status of technological innovations being promoted by the company to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

He also visited Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, a higher education institution of the Anishinaabe First Nation, to observe how it is working with a local university to preserve the traditional culture and language of the Anishinaabe people for future generations.
