Ambassador Yamanouchi's Farewell Reception

On July 8, 2026, Ambassador YAMANOUCHI Kanji hosted a farewell reception. Approximately 500 guests attended the reception, including the Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, Speaker of the House of Commons, Her Honour the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Krista Ross, Senator and Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, and Thomas d'Aquino, founding CEO of the Business Council of Canada, as well as representatives from the federal government, Parliament, judiciary, local diplomatic corps, academia, culture, and business.
 
Guest speakers, including Speaker Scarpaleggia, Lieutenant Governor Dumont, and Senator Ross, delivered heartfelt words of gratitude and farewell.
 
Ambassador Yamanouchi then reflected on his four years and three months of service in Canada and his 42-year diplomatic career, mentioning his visits to all ten provinces and 3 territories.
 
Furthermore, Mr. d'Aquino offered a toast, expressing his gratitude.
 
At the venue, sushi prepared by Chef Hamana and sake were served, showcasing various flavours of Japan. Ikebana arrangements by the Ohara and Sogetsu schools also added colour to the reception.
 
Towards the end of the reception, a rock band composed of volunteer embassy staff, including the Ambassador, Canadian federal government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps, performed, bringing the event to a lively close with the audience singing along.
