Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi’s business trip to Alberta and Saskatchewan from September 27th to September 29th, 2023

From September 27 to 29, Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi had a business trip to Alberta and Saskatchewan.
In Calgary, Alberta, Ambassador Yamanouchi, together with Mr. Watabe, Consul-General of Japan in Calgary, exchanged views on bilateral relations and international affairs with the Honourable Gary G. Mar, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada West Foundation and former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, respectively. Ambassador also paid a courtesy call on Premier Danielle Smith of Alberta and the Honourable Nathan Cooper, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta at the government building, and exchanged views on promoting economic ties and investment relations between Japan and Alberta in areas such as energy and food.
Ambassador Yamanouchi also met with Alberta’s Japanese-Canadian community group at the Consul-General Watabe's official residence and exchanged views on how to deepen Japan-Canada relations.
In Saskatchewan, after visiting a canola farm, Ambassador Yamanouchi, together with Mr. Watabe, Consul-General of Japan in Calgary, exchanged opinions with staffs from SaskCanola on the challenges and current situation in the production of canola, an important imported item for Japan's food security.
Furthermore, Ambassador Yamanouchi delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Japan Studies Association of Canada’s (JSAC) annual conference held at the University of Saskatchewan, touching on the history between Japan and Canada and highlighting the important role of JSAC in the increasingly closer Japan-Canada relations. After the annual conference, Ambassador Yamanouchi exchanged opinions with experts from the Japan Studies Association of Canada concerning deepening bilateral relations.
