Conferment of the Ambassador’s Award upon the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association Canada

On May 28, 2024, Ambassador YAMANOUCHI Kanji conferred the Ambassador’s Award upon the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association Canada (SWYAA Canada.)

At the ceremony, Ambassador Yamanouchi delivered a congratulatory address, praising the Alumni Association for their many activities put on over the years to promote Japan-Canada friendship and connect alumni of the program all over the world. He also explained the long history of the Ship for World Youth program and its contribution to developing leadership skills and producing leaders around the world. It has played an important role in promoting Japan-Canada relations since 1991 and 155 Canadians have participated in it.

In response, Mr. Mike Lafleur, President of SWYAA Canada, expressed his gratitude for the award and thanked his fellow alumni, Prime Minister’s Youth Council members, members from Universities Canada and Carleton University, and Canadian government officials who attended the ceremony.
 
Remarks were given by Mr. Angelo Iacono, M.P., Vice-Chair, Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, and Mr. Weldon Epp, Assistant Deputy Minister, Global Affairs Canada, who noted the importance of people-to-people exchange in fostering international cooperation and understanding around the world.
 
Ms. Shelby Kramp-Neuman, M.P., Shadow Minister for Women, Gender Equality, and Youth, led everyone in a toast.
