Visit by Carleton University International Relations Society

On the morning of Thursday, April 13, seventeen undergraduate students from the Carleton University International Relations Society (CIRS) visited the Embassy of Japan to learn more about Japan-Canada relations. The visit was organized by Mr. Logan Ockenden, President of CIRS.
Mr. Nishiumi Shigehiro, Minister of Political Affairs, provided an informative presentation on Japan-Canada relations, including the history of bi-lateral relations, as well as recent developments on the shared vision of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), the Action Plan for the 6 shared priorities, Canada’s recently released Indo-Pacific Strategy, and the upcoming G7 Hiroshima Summit.
Ms. Yamasaki Akiko, Director at the Information and Culture Centre also introduced the students to Japanese cultural events organized by the Embassy, as well as the various exchange programs offered by the Japanese government such as the MEXT Scholarship, JET Programme, and the Ship for World Youth. This was followed by a lively Q&A session.
