2024 Spring Conferment of Decoration Ceremony (The Honorable Marie-P. Charette-Poulin)

On June 11, Ambassador Yamanouchi conferred upon The Honorable Marie-P. Charette-Poulin, former Senator of Canada, the decoration of The Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star at a ceremony held at the official residence of the Ambassador as part of the 2024 Spring Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals. Ms. Poulin, who served as Senator of Canada from 1995 to 2015, was has made a significant contribution to building friendly bilateral relations and promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Canada, serving as Co-Chair and Vice-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group (CAJP) for about 13 years since 2002.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Yamanouchi delivered a congratulatory address before conferring the certificate of award and decoration to Ms. Poulin, which was followed by Ms. Poulin's acceptance speech.
Remarks were given by Hon. Edith Dumont, Lt. Governor of Ontario, Hon. Stan Kutcher, Senator, Co-Chair of the CAJP and Mr. Paul Lefebvre, Mayor of Greater Sudbury.
Finally, Mr. Terry Sheehan, M.P.,Co-Chair of the CAJP, gave a remarks and toast.
The Government of Japan confers decorations to foreign nationals who have made significant contributions to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding with Japan. Decorations were conferred upon 101 foreign nationals (including 7 recipients in Canada) in spring 2024.
