2025 Spring Conferment of Decoration Ceremony (The Honorable Jim Lloyd Munson)

On November 26th, Ambassador Yamanouchi conferred upon The Honorable Jim Lloyd Munson, former Senator of Canada, the decoration of The Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star at a ceremony held at the official residence of the Ambassador as part of the 2025 Spring Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals. Mr. Munson, who served as Senator of Canada from 2003 to 2021, has made a significant contribution to building friendly bilateral relations and promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Canada, serving as Co-Chair and Vice-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group (CAJP) for about 5 years since 2016.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Yamanouchi delivered a congratulatory address before conferring the certificate of award and decoration to Mr. Munson, which was followed by Mr. Munson's acceptance speech.
Remarks were given by the former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Hon. John Manley, Senator Hon. Mary Coyle, and a former CTV journalist Mr. Roger Smith.
Finally, M.P., a Vice -Chair of the CAJP Mr. Angelo Iacono, gave a remarks and toast.
The Government of Japan confers decorations to foreign nationals who have made significant contributions to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding with Japan. Decorations were conferred upon 107 foreign nationals across the world and Mr. Munson is the only recipient in Canada in spring 2025.
