Online Cultural Event “Creative Japan: Music, Dance, and Theatre”

2021/7/28
On July 28 the Embassy of Japan hosted an online cultural event exploring Japan and Canada’s friendship through the contribution of artistic and cultural organizations mainly in the National Capital Region (cities of Ottawa and Gatineau). The event featured Mr. Mathew Miwa, Vice President of the Ottawa Japanese Community Association and theatre artist, as well as Ms. Emiko Tanaka, Representative of Yosakoi Team Canada KAEDE, and Ms. Takako Segawa, Representative of its Ottawa branch and contemporary dancer, and Mikuro Mika, Japanese pop singer. On the occasion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, each of the participating artists or their organizations also supported the embassy’s web event to introduce the friendship between Japan and Canada through sport “Passing the Torch: Canada and Japan’s Friendship through Sport” by sending a video message cheering on Teams Canada and Japan.

In his introductory remarks H.E. Ambassador KAWAMURA Yasuhisa spoke about the importance of the efforts of the participating artists and their organizations to further the friendship between Japan and Canada during such a difficult time when social activities are restricted by COVID-19. Afterwards, staff of the Embassy of Japan introduced various Japanese artistic and cultural groups in Ottawa and surrounding regions. Also, during an interactive Q&A session, the artists answered various questions from the participants.

The event was conducted via Zoom webinar and livestreamed via the Embassy of Japan’s Facebook page. The event can be viewed at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/JapaninCanada/videos/514615279799991
