Embassy Concert

2019/1/24
On January 18, Ambassador Ishikane and Mrs. Ishikane hosted a charity concert at their residence, in aid of the Friends of the National Arts Centre Orchestra (FNACO). FNACO is a non-profit organisation which raises funds to support the NAC Orchestra as well as to further the education of young aspiring musicians in the Ottawa region and elsewhere.

The event was attended by around 70 people including 50 members of FNACO.

The performers were Mr. Yosuke Kawasaki, Concertmaster of the NAC Orchestra and Dr. Vadim Serebryany, pianist and Assistant Professor in Performance Studies at the Faculty of Music, Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY.

The event began with a speech by Ambassador Ishikane, in which he noted that generosity will give aspiring local musicians the opportunity to continue to perfect their own arts.

The performance then began with Beethoven's Sonata for Violin in F major, Opus 24, "Spring", and was followed by Ravel's Oiseaux Tristes from Miroirs and the Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams. The concert concluded with Kreisler's Liebeslied and Liebesfreud. Each piece was introduced by Mr. Kawasaki.

After the concert, Mr. Albert V. Benoit, President of FNACO made remarks and expressed his deep appreciation to Ambassador Ishikane for hosting the concert.

The concert was followed by a reception where Japanese food and Japanese sake were offered.
