JET Career Fair & 2019 Welcome Back Reception
2019/10/16
On October 8, the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Alumni Association (JETAA) of Ottawa co-organized a Career Fair at the Embassy’s auditorium. In attendance was a select group of JET alumni, many of whom returned from the JET Programme earlier this year, as well as Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) scholars and students who had completed a Co-op exchange program in Japan. These young professionals were presented with future career opportunities at several prominent Japanese and Canadian companies and organizations including Fujitsu, Uniqlo, Kintetsu International Express, Autonomous ID, MUFG, Gastops, Assent Compliance, Invest in Canada, and LRO Staffing. Following the companies’ brief presentations, career fair participants were able to meet and talk with company representatives for more specific information.
After the Career Fair a JET Welcome Back Reception was held at the Ambassador Kimihiro Ishikane’s residence. Ten JET Programme participants who returned from Japan in 2019 attended the reception, along with over 40 other JET Alumni, members of the business community, MEXT alumni, government officials, and other prominent members of the Japan-related community. Ambassador Ishikane began the evening with opening remarks, thanking the new JET alumni for their hard work and encouraging them to maintain their connection with Japan. Ms. Julia Morris, who taught in Tokushima Prefecture, then spoke about her experience in Japan on behalf of this year’s returnees. Lastly, Mr. Brandon Wallace, President of JETAA Ottawa, gave final remarks and led a toast, after which guests from various sectors mingled, discussing opportunities for future growth.
