2025 JET Farewell Reception

On July 30th, the Embassy of Japan held a Farewell Reception in the Embassy’s auditorium for this year’s Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme participants from Ottawa. Our five Ottawa JET participants will leave Canada for Japan on August 2nd as the 39th JET cohort.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Kohei Maruyama, congratulated the new JET Programme participants for going to Japan, and spoke of the mutual understanding between Japan and Canada built by each JET participant - it is what truly builds a bridge between the two countries. Next, Mr. Ken England, Director of the Northeast Asia Division at Global Affairs Canada, delivered remarks and spoke about the importance of the JET Programme in Japan-Canada relations. He also noted that many former JET participants are active at the forefront of their respective fields in different ministries and agencies, including Global Affairs Canada.
Finally, on behalf of the JET participants, Mr. Kevin Lin expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of Japan for the selection process and orientation. He also expressed his aspirations to make his visit to Japan a wonderful experience.
The reception was attended by JETAA members, including former JET participants who are active in various fields, including the Canadian government.
