2020 JET Programme Welcome Back Reception
On September 24th, Ambassador Yasuhisa Kawamura and Mrs. Kawamura hosted a socially distanced JET Programme Welcome Back Reception at their residence. Eight JET Programme participants who returned from Japan in 2020 attended the reception, along with members of the JET Alumni Association of Ottawa, and a representative from Global Affairs Canada. Ambassador Kawamura began the event with opening remarks, expressing respect and gratitude to the new JET alumni for coming back to Canada after completing their tasks as JET amid COVID-19 in Japan and expectation for them to use their one-of-a-kind experience in Japan throughout their lives. Ms. Laura Geier, who taught in Nagasaki Prefecture, then spoke about her experience in Japan on behalf of this year’s returnees. Lastly, Mr. Shuaib Syed, a representative of JETAA Ottawa and a 2019 JET returnee, gave the final remarks. Guests proceeded to the patio and the Ambassador led a toast, welcoming the returnees back to Canada. Guests then took part in a patio lunch while discussing their experiences in Japan with other guests.
