5th JKA Shotokan Karate-Do Event

On June 2, the 5th JKA Shōtōkan Karate-Dō Junior Tournament was held at a community centre in Ottawa. A special guest from Japan, Karate Master Shiina Katsutoshi attended the event. Around 50 young karate-ka from Ottawa and Montreal, between the ages of 6 and 14, participated.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Atsushi Murata, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan gave words of encouragements to all the participants. There were individual matches of kata and kumite, as well as a team kata performance. The event was a success, providing children with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned.
Karate will make its debut as an Olympic sport at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
