Canada has a concentration of world-leading research hubs in cities such as Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. These research hubs attract numerous talented researchers from around the world, who conduct cutting-edge research.
Many researchers from Japan also travel to Canada to conduct research at various Canadian universities and research institutions. This experience at overseas research institutions is considered a valuable asset for researchers even after returning to Japan, as it allows them to access international networks, gain cutting-edge information, and lays the foundation for new collaborative research.
Furthermore, with many Japanese researchers experiencing the research environment in Canada and actively contributing, not only in Japan, but also globally, there are increasing requests from Canadian universities, research institutions, and researchers to explore new collaborations with Japan.
The Embassy of Japan in Canada believes that supporting new connections between researchers and universities, based on this interest, will maintain, develop, and deepen research cooperation between Japan and Canada, ultimately strengthening Japan.
For this reason, the Embassy of Japan in Canada is working to compile a list of researchers, called "BRIDGE Researchers," who connect Canada and Japan.
These researchers meet the following criteria:
・Researchers with past and continuous research experience of at least one year at a Canadian university or research institution.
・Researchers who are currently conducting research at a Japanese university or research institution.
This list aims to strengthen Japan's scientific and technological foundation by sharing this information with Canadian universities and research institutions as a tool to explore international collaborative research with Japan, and utilizing it for young Canadians who wish to challenge themselves in Japan's research environment.
