2024/10/22
On October 22nd, a concert entitled “Cross-Culture Friendship Concert” was held at the Ambassador's residence in cooperation with the Embassy of Mongolia in Canada, featuring Morin Khuur player Jigjiddorj Nanzaddorj and pianist Frédéric Lacroix.
At the beginning of the concert, Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi gave a speech, expressing his hope that the concert would help to share the bonds of friendship and people that transcend national borders through the beautiful sounds of the music.
The Mongolian Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Sarantogos Erdenetsogt, then gave a speech, saying that she hoped everyone would enjoy the sound of the Morin Khuur, a traditional two-stringed instrument that Mongolia is proud of, and that she was very happy about the friendship between Mongolia, Japan and Canada that made this concert possible.
Jigjiddorj Nanzaddorj, the Morin Khuur player from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, is an internationally renowned Morin Khuur player who has performed in many countries around the world, and has also appeared as a soloist on many major stages. The pianist was Frédéric Lacroix, who is based in Ottawa, is also active internationally and performs as a composer as well.
The audience was captivated by the beauty of the music throughout the concert. The traditional Mongolian piece, which featured the main melody of the Morin Khuur, took the audience on a cultural journey, with its deep and heroic sound, and at other times, its clear and soft sound, evoking the vast Mongolian grasslands where horses gallop. In addition, famous Japanese and Canadian songs were given a new richness by the clear tones of the Morin Khuur and piano, and the audience was enveloped in a great sense of emotion.
About 50 participants enjoyed the beauty of cross-cultural exchange through the music of Japan, Mongolia and Canada, played by the Morin Khuur, a traditional Mongolian instrument, and piano. Participants commented that the sound of the Morin Khuur and piano was so beautiful that they felt the sound brought the scent of the Mongolian steppe.
After the concert, traditional Japanese and Mongolian dishes were served as a symbol of friendship between the two cultures. Participants also enjoyed the wonderful experience of cross-cultural exchange through the food and drinks.
