JAPANESE FILM NIGHT: “The Takatsu River”
2023/12/8
On December 8, the film “The Takatsu River” was screened at a Japanese Film Night held at the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) with the collaboration of the Japan Foundation Toronto and the OAG.
At the beginning of the event, a message from the OAG was presented, in which the OAG expressed their gratefulness for holding this Japanese Film Night based on the long-term good cooperation between the Embassy of Japan and the OAG.
“The Takatsu River” is a film set in a rural region of Shimane Prefecture. The film is about the daily lives of locals who try to preserve the tradition of “Kagura” Shinto music and dance while facing the challenges of a declining population.
About 100 people participated in the event. Many of them commented that the film provided a good opportunity to learn about nature and rural life in Japan, and that it was a heart-warming film.
