Ottawa Japanese Film Week

From June 25th to 30th and July 2nd, the Embassy of Japan hosted the Ottawa Japanese Film Week at ByTowne Cinema.
From a great classic by Akira Kurosawa to a psychological thriller adapted from the global hit video game, seven movies were screened during the Film Week.
Shoplifters (Hirokazu Kore-eda, 2018), Linda Linda Linda (Atsuhiro Yamashita, 2005), Exit 8 (Genki Kawamura, 2025), Summer Wars (Mamoru Hosoda, 2009), Blue Giant (Yuzuru Tachikawa, 2023), Offbeat Cops (Eiji Uchida, 2022) and Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa, 1954) were presented, covering a wide range of genres and themes.
In his opening remarks preceding opening day’s screening, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Hideaki Ishii hopes that the audience feels closer to Japan and to the people who live there through the screen.
The event was very well received and attracted about 1900 people over 7 days.
