Joint Film Screening at the Korean Cultural Centre

On February 5, 2019 the Embassy of Japan held a joint film event with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea at the Korean Cultural Centre, with a moving opening performance by Japanese soprano Ms. Noriko Hashimoto.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane, Ambassador of Japan spoke about the importance of music and the arts in bringing people of different nations together. H.E. Mr. Shin Maeng-ho, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, said that Japan and Korea share a long history and common interests. Both ambassadors mentioned they would continue to collaborate and build strong relationship between two countries.

Following the ambassadors’ remarks, Japanese soprano Ms. Noriko Hashimoto with Korean pianist Ms. Juliana Park set the mood with their beautiful performance of opera music by the composer featured in the film, Giacomo Puccini. The full house audience listened with bated breath to Ms. Hashimoto’s stunning voice. The performers received a round of enthusiastic applause after each song.

The event was completed with the screening of ‘The Tenor – Lirico Spinto,’ a biopic about Korean opera tenor Bae Jae-chul, and his life-changing friendship with Japanese music producer Koji Sawada. It was well-loved by the audience, who left the event very satisfied.
