The 35th Japanese Speech Contest in Ottawa

On March 9, the Embassy of Japan and the Organizing Committee for the Japanese Speech Contest in Ottawa held the 35th Japanese Speech Contest in Ottawa (The contest was organized with the support of Mitsui Canada Foundation, the Japan Foundation Toronto, Carleton University, and Blue Tree Books.) at the Embassy’s Information and Culture Centre.
A total of 21 contestants, divided into four categories, were able to show the results of their Japanese language studies.
Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi delivered the remarks, stating that while bilateral relations between Japan and Canada are further strong and continuously growing across many fields, the exchange of people between the two countries is a key foundation for our bilateral relations. Associate Professor Michael Rodgers, Director of the School of Linguistics and Language Studies at Carleton University, then gave a speech.
The first prize winners in each category of beginners, intermediate and advanced earned the right to participate in the Canadian National Japanese Speech Contest to be held at the Embassy of Japan in Canada on March 24th.
The 1st prizes of the speech contest are the following.
Beginners Category:
The 1st Prize: Wanyue (Crystal) Wang (Queen’s University) “Let’s Embrace Our “Chuunibyou” Selves”
Intermediate Category:
The 1st Prize: Yuxuan Lu (Queen’s University) “To the Beyond of Faith”
Advanced Category:
The 1st Prize: Wentian Yao (Carleton University) “The impact of artificial intelligence on employment”
Open Category:
The 1st Prize: Andrew Butterfield (Queen’s University) “Hockey Culture - Is there a Problem?”
