Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition: The Power of Flowers

2022/6/15
On Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th, the Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition was held at the Information and Culture Centre of the Embassy of Japan. The theme of this year’s exhibition was “The Power of Flowers”. A total of 20 flower arrangements depicting a cool early summer were on display. More than 700 visitors came to the exhibition over two days.

At the opening ceremony, which was held on the first day of the event, we welcomed distinguished guests including the Honourable Senator Stanley Kutcher, Co-Chair of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group. Mrs. Clair McCaughey, Director of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in Ottawa and Mrs. Anne Breau, Exhibition Chair, made remarks commemorating this exhibition, which was held in-person for the first time in two years. In his congratulatory speech, Ambassador YAMANOUCHI Kanji reiterated that ikebana has made a significant contribution to the history of Japan and Canada relations. He expressed his gratitude for the long-standing cultural exchange activities of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana Ottawa Branch, which celebrated its 26th anniversary this year.
