Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition: “Revealing Nature’s Beauty”
2024/9/29
On September 28th and 29th, this year’s Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition entitled "Revealing Nature's Beauty" organized by the Sogetsu School of Ikebana Ottawa Branch was held at the Embassy of Japan and was attended by around 400 visitors. Based on the Sogetsu philosophy of "anytime, anywhere, by anyone," the exhibition featured works in a muted and chic autumnal colour palette bringing warmth to the exhibition space. There was also a section showcasing ikebana-related tools such as flower scissors, hanadome (flower stand), and vases, which are essential for creating ikebana works.
At the opening ceremony, which was held on the first day of the event, Ms. Elaine Sigler, Director of the Ottawa Branch of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, gave a speech, mentioning the Ambassador’s Award Conferment Ceremony held at the official residence on September 5th this year for three Ikebana institutions. She expressed her gratitude to the founders and all the members of the Branch, and stated that the Branch will continue to work hard to promote understanding of Japanese culture through Ikebana. In addition, Exhibition Co-Chairs Ms. Claire McCaughey and Ms. Rosario Romero Castro, explained the exhibition’s theme. Lastly, Ambassador YAMANOUCHI Kanji delivered remarks, mentioning the Ambassador’s Award Conferment Ceremony, and once again expressed his sincere gratitude to the Branch for its contributions to the development and promotion of Ikebana culture over the past 28 years.
