Virtual Ohara Ikebana Exhibition: (re)connect create and celebrate
2021/11/21
From November 6 to November 21, the Embassy of Japan and the Ohara School of Ikebana Ottawa Chapter held a virtual Ohara Ikebana Exhibition. The theme of this year’s exhibit was “(re)connect create and celebrate”. The Ohara School’s annual exhibition has been held at the Embassy of Japan every year, but this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the exhibition was held virtually again. A total of 40 works that were skillfully put together with various ikebana materials were on display which reminded us of the beautiful autumn season.
In his video greeting Ambassador Kawamura expressed his gratitude for the Ohara School of Ikebana Ottawa Chapter's many years of contribution to the promotion of Japanese flower arrangement through offering ikebana lessons, ikebana demonstrations, and exhibitions in the National Capital Region.
On November 9, Ms. Michelle Barron, a member of the Ohara School of Ikebana Ottawa Chapter, led a virtual tour of the exhibition. She conducted the tour by explaining each flower arrangement. She also screened a pre-recorded ikebana demonstration video conducted by Ms. Wendy Batson, President of the Ohara School of Ikebana Ottawa Chapter. Various questions were asked by participants and answered by Ms. Barron. The virtual tour provided participants with an opportunity to increase their interest and understanding of sophisticated expression of art through ikebana.
