Ambassador Yamanouchi's Official Visit to the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador

Ambassador Kanji YAMANOUCHI paid an official visit to Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) from February 28 to March 2.
 
Ambassador Yamanouchi met with the Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of NL, the Honourable Judy May Foote Lieutenant Governor of NL, the Honourable Derek Bennett, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of NL, Ms. Sheilaigh O'Leary, Deputy Mayor of St. John's, Mr. Jamie Chippett, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture, and Mr. John Cowan, Deputy Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology. During these meetings, Ambassador Yamanouchi exchanged views on such issues as the promotion of increasingly economic activities between Japan and Newfoundland and Labrador in the areas of rare resources and fisheries.
 
At Memorial University in NL, he met with Dr. Vianne Timmons, President of Memorial University and exchanged views on the promotion of personal exchange of students between Japan and the university, and gave a lecture to students and faculty members of the university.

He also visited the Marine Institute at the university and exchanged views on the promotion of research cooperation between Japan and the institute in the field of oceanography.
