Decoration for Non-Japanese Nationals in the Spring 2016 Conferment Ceremony and Reception

 

On June 8, Ambassador and Mrs. Monji organized a ceremony and reception at their residence for Mr. Leonard John Edwards, Former Ambassador of Canada to Japan, who was awarded the Japanese decoration The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star this spring. Mr. Edwards served as Ambassador in Japan from 1998 to 2001 before becoming Deputy Minister of International Trade and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Monji gave remarks of congratulations and presented the decoration, and then Mr. Edwards gave his acceptance speech.

About 50 people including family, former colleagues and government officials, attended the ceremony and reception celebrating the conferment of decoration.

Decorations for Non-Japanese Nationals are bestowed on those who made significant contributions to promote friendly relations and mutual understanding with Japan. Among the 90 recipients this spring, 20 recipients, including Mr. Edwards, received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star.
