Japanese Animation Film Screening at Carleton University
On November 2, the Embassy of Japan co-hosted a film screening at Carleton University with the Japan Foundation, the University’s Japanese Section of the School of Linguistics and Language Studies (SLaLS), the ANIME CLUB, and the Japanese Association (CUJA). “5 Centimeters per Second”, and “The Place Promised in Our Early Days”, two animated films by Japanese director, Makoto Shinkai, were presented.
Many people, mostly students who are learning the Japanese language, those who are animation fans, and those who are interested in Japanese culture attended and appreciated the films’ detailed and beautiful stories. During the break between films, Japanese tea and traditional sweets were served and it made a brief evening of cross-cultural experience for the participants. Many of viewers commented that they enjoyed the films could get to know Japanese culture through them.
