Film Screening and Talk of “311: In the Moment” by Director Kyoko Gasha
On May 12, The Embassy of Japan hosted Japanese film director, Ms. Kyoko Gasha, for a screening of her documentary film, “311: In the Moment” followed by a question and answer session. Representing the Embassy of Japan were Minister Fumio Yawata and his wife.
In his opening remarks, Minister Yawata said that the series of Japanese film screenings that the Embassy is going to present over the coming weeks highlights the experiences of the people in the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster-affected regions and shows their resilience in the face of adversity. Furthermore, this series is presented to express Japan’s deep gratitude for the support of the international community after the disaster. He also spoke about the determination of people in the affected areas to move toward recovery and how it is an inspiration to all. He reiterated his gratitude for the unwavering support of the people of Canada as the disaster-affected regions continue their recovery.
The event was attended by about 140 people and the auditorium was nearly full. Audience members participated in a question and answer session and asked Ms. Gasha about her experiences and the making of the film. Many audience members commented they were moved by the film.
