Concert Performed by Mr. Yosuke Kawasaki and Dr. Vadim Serebryany at the Ambassador’s Residence

On June 5, the Embassy of Japan and Friends of the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO) were pleased to host a concert performed by Mr. Yosuke Kawasaki, Concert Master of the NACO; and Dr. Vadim Serebryany, pianist and Assistant Professor of Music at Huntingdon College in Alabama, in the United States.

This event was organized to raise funds for programs to nurture young musicians. Ambassador Ishikawa made opening remarks and expressed his sincere appreciation for the donations made last year to relief efforts from the NACO and the Friends of NACO following the Great East Japan Earthquake. The event was attended by about 60 people including members of the Friends of NACO; Mme. Jeanne d’Arc Sharp, honourable patron of the Friends of NACO; and Mr. Jean-Guy Dumoulin, President of the Friends of NACO.

During the concert, Mr. Kawasaki and Dr. Serebryany performed works by Toru Takemitsu, Brahms, and Ravel. The audience members were fascinated by the graceful music performed by the two internationally-active and prominent musicians. The concert was followed by a reception where the Ambassador’s chef performed a live sushi demonstration and various kinds of Japanese Sake from the Tohoku region were introduced.
