Kizuna Concert

On March 25, 2012, the Embassy of Japan was honoured to host the Japanese jazz ensemble, Yuichiro Tokuda’s RALYZZ DIG for a concert to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The jazz ensemble consisted of three musicians: Mr. Yuichiro Tokuda – on saxophone and vocals; Mr. Kazuhiro Tamura – on piano; and Mr. Naoto Suzuki - on guitar.

The event was held in the auditorium of the National Gallery of Canada. During the concert, the group gave their thoughts on the recovery of the disaster affected areas and talked about the experience of performing charity concerts in the Tohoku region.

At the end of the show, they played a traditional song of Tohoku called “Song of the Seashore” with an original jazz arrangement to offer a prayer to the people of the region.

On display in the auditorium lobby were information panels depicting different scenes from Tohoku as well as examples of Canadian support to Japan after the disaster. Many audience members browsed the panels during the intermission and after the concert. Approximately 350 guests attended the concert and gave much positive feedback about the performance.
