Photo and Children’s Drawing Exhibition: One Year After the Great East Japan Earthquake

From March 10 to 23, the Embassy of Japan held an exhibition of photos and children’s drawings entitled “One Year After the Great East Japan Earthquake – Japan’s Road to Recovery” in the Embassy’s auditorium. More than 360 people, including both children and adults visited the exhibition.

On display in the auditorium were photos depicting the reconstruction progress in the affected areas one year after the Great East Japan Earthquake along with drawings by children from the affected areas. Furthermore, information panels showing examples of Canadian support to Japan after the disaster were displayed. Many visitors were touched by photos depicting disaster victims’ efforts toward the recovery as well as the powerful and bright drawings full of hope which were drawn by children from the disaster-stricken areas.

Visitors wrote messages of encouragement for the people in the affected areas and the people of Japan in the guest book. There were also many heartwarming messages from Japanese Canadians and Japanese living in Canada expressing gratitude for the support sent by Canadians after the disaster which reflected the deep bonds that exist between Japan and Canada.
