2013 International Food Fair

On November 21st, 2013, Chef Shoji Hamana, esteemed chef at the official residence of Japan in Canada, represented the Embassy at the International Food Fair 2013 held from noon in the Lester B. Pearson Building at 125 Sussex Drive, Ottawa.

This workplace charitable campaign was organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development in support of community services for people most in need across Canada. Six regional groups of Ottawa-based diplomatic missions provided and served their national cuisine at this popular event attended by senior managers and staff from the Department. Proceeds from the food fair will be distributed through charitable agencies such as the United Way.

Participating on behalf of the Embassy, Chef Hamana prepared and supervised the offering of samples of assorted sushi. Although Japanese food is very popular amongst Canadians, there is little opportunity to enjoy it here in Ottawa. The Chef of the Ambassador of Japan took advantage of this occasion to introduce Japanese cuisine to Canadians and promote mutual understanding through his culinary arts. Being very popular amongst participants at the food fair, sushi provided by Chef Hamana was the first to be sold out.
