Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibit 2013

On October 5th and 6th, the Sogetsu School of Ikebana held its exhibition “Autumn Splendour” in the Embassy of Japan auditorium.  More than 400 people visited the exhibition, demonstrating the popularity of Ikebana among the people of Ottawa.

Many gorgeous Ikebana arrangements were exhibited, with the theme of the beauty of autumn. Visitors enjoyed the expression of autumn’s colours as imagined and created by the members of Sogetsu Ottawa Branch.

Ms. Jane Metcalfe, Exhibition Chair, and Ms. Nancy Sharp, Director of the Ottawa Branch of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, delivered opening remarks. Representing the Embassy of Japan, Minister Fumio Yawata remarked that the theme of the exhibit reminds one of a gorgeous Canadian autumn landscape decorated with brightly coloured maple leaves, and rich harvest. He mentioned that the presented works are the fruit of the tireless practice of the exhibitors, and they vitalize the viewers with their energy and their creators’ enthusiasm.
