International Food Fair 2014
On November 20th 2014, Mr. Shoji Hamana, Executive Chef at the official residence of Japan, prepared and offered Japanese cuisine at the International Food Fair 2014 which was held at the Lester B. Pearson Building at 125 Sussex Drive, Ottawa.
This workplace charitable campaign takes place annually in autumn and is hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development. At this event, Embassies and High Commissions based in Ottawa provide their national cuisine and participants purchase tickets to enjoy the foods. The proceeds from the food fair will be distributed to people and communities in need across Canada through charitable agencies.
This year, about 400 senior managers and staff from the Department attended the event. Just as last year, Chef Hamana prepared assorted sushi. Since Washoku (Japanese cuisine) was recognized as the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in December 2013, the Embassy of Japan is hosting events to introduce and promote Japanese cuisine. The participation of Chef Hamana in this event diversifies and accelerates these activities. The colourful sushi that Chef Hamana prepared for this occasion was very much appreciated by the participants, which led to promoting Japanese culinary arts widely.
