Sogestu Ikebana Exhibition: Ikebana Inspiration
On October 18th and 19th, the Sogetsu School of Ikebana Ottawa Branch held its annual exhibition at the Embassy of Japan auditorium. This year’s theme was “Ikebana Inspiration” and members created autumn color arrangements drawing inspiration from Canadian artists.
At the opening ceremony, Ms. Nancy Sharp, Director of the Ottawa Branch of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, and Ms. Linda Jones, Exhibition Chair, delivered opening remarks. In his remarks, Ambassador Okuda commented that this theme demonstrates how the cultural traditions of different nations can influence each other to create a new artistic experience and expressed his hope that this collaborative spirit and willingness to learn from other cultures inspires others to use the arts as a means of building bridges between countries.
During this 2-day-exhibition, more than 500 people visited and enjoyed the imaginative collaboration between Canadian art and Japanese traditional flower arrangement, Ikebana.
