Ottawa Bonsai Society 2014 Exhibition
On September 20 and 21, the Ottawa Bonsai Society held its annual exhibition at the Embassy of Japan. Over 400 people attended this exciting event where they had the opportunity to view more than 35 bonsai and learn firsthand how to make their own miniature trees.
Bonsai enthusiasts presented their works which had been carefully tended over several years, taking into consideration Canadian soil and climate. Through their ability to imitate nature in miniature form, the bonsai trees stirred the imagination of the visitors and clearly conveyed their creator’s appreciation for nature.
In his opening address, Ambassador Okuda remarked that bonsai can be viewed as a metaphor for the Japan-Canada relationship, as both require our attentive and diligent care to continue to flourish. He also thanked the organizers of the event for sharing their passion for bonsai with the Ottawa community and for their continued dedication to furthering mutual understanding between Canada and Japan.
