Sake Tasting

On June 18th, 2014, the Embassy of Japan and the Canada-Japan Society of Ottawa (CJSO) held a Sake Tasting in the Embassy’s auditorium.

More than 40 sake enthusiasts took part in the event, sampling 10 different types of sake over the course of evening while dining on sushi and discussing their preferences among the samples.

In his opening remarks, Minister Fumio Yawata noted this yearly gathering was a wonderful way to explore Japanese culture and cuisine and expressed his hope that this would help encourage the LCBO to start importing more varieties of Japan’s national drink.

Through the detailed presentation by Mrs. Yumiko Tsunakawa, Director and Dinner Coordinator of the CJSO, guests learned about the production of sake as well as the different types of sake available on the market.

Later in the evening, Ambassador Okuda dropped in to try a few samples himself, saying he couldn’t miss the opportunity to have a glass with Ottawa’s other sake aficionados.
