Interactive Bonsai Demonstration

As a lead up to the Bonsai Exhibition on September 12th and 13th, the Embassy of Japan hosted an Interactive Bonsai Demonstration on September 9th.

The Ottawa Bonsai Society’s Bonsai Exhibition at the Embassy is an annual event, however, this year we created an opportunity for members of the community to deepen their interest and understanding of bonsai.

Mr. Vianney Leduc and Mr. Barney Shum from Ottawa Bonsai Society began the demonstration by explaining what bonsai is, as well as bonsai design and the techniques and tool for making bonsai. The event proceeded in a relaxed and interactive atmosphere, with the audience being able to ask questions. After Mr. Shum explained about basic bonsai design, Mr. Leduc pruned a bonsai tree by asking the input of participants.

Through the demonstration, participants discovered that many years of work are invested in little bonsai trees and by learning about bonsai they gained a greater appreciation for the enthusiasm and affection which bonsai enthusiasts have for their work.
