March Break Film Screening

On Wednesday, March 18th, the Embassy of Japan hosted two film screenings: My Neighbors, the Yamadas and Tokyo Sonata.

At the afternoon screening of My Neighbors, the Yamadas, the audience had the chance to enjoy a humorous take on family life in Japan. While welcoming guests, Mr. Osamu Ogata, Director of the Embassy’s Information and Culture section, noted that in many ways, life for children in Japan is very similar to the lives of children in Canada.

Later that evening, more than 130 film-lovers came out to watch Tokyo Sonata from acclaimed director Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Hiroshi Karube, Minister of the Embassy, expressed that the Embassy is always looking for opportunities to introduce Canadians to modern Japanese society, innovation and culture and film is one of the best ways to achieve this. Fortunately for the Embassy, he added, “Japan has no lack of talented actors, directors and filmmakers to help showcase the quality and scope of the Japanese film industry to international audiences.”

Thank you to everyone who attended this special March Break event. We hope to see you at the Japanese Film Festival in the fall.
